Photo Finish

Tips from a Mike Murray on how to get the perfect race photo.

  1. Wear your Bib# on the front.
  2. Every runner/triathlete should run down the center of the finish line chute and not play with their watch.
  3. Runners would not run in groups or a least spread out when they cross the finish line.

Wishful thinking by Mike that would make his job a million times easier.

  1. The finish line would have a double sided clock and a double sided finish line banner that’s no more than 12 feet high.
  2. The finish line would be no more than 25’ wide, roped off on both sides and no one would get between me and the runners crossing the finish line.
  3. Every race would start & finish at near the same location, start no earlier than 8AM and always face West-to-East.
  4. The awards would not start until all of the runners are in –or no one would take over an hour to complete a 5K.
  5. Combined races with multiple distances would wear difference color bib#s or have separate finish lines chutes.
  6. A link to my website would be placed on the event website and/or the results page and I would receive the data file within 3 days after the event.
  7. Contract photographers would always show up on time, have the right equipment, not expect to get rich and be half as good as their website implies.
  8. Cameras, lenses, batteries, memory cards, hard drives and Internet uploads would never fail.
  9. My wife would not expect me to cut the grass as soon as I get home from an event that was 3 hours away and no one ever would say “that picture makes me look fat”.

Thank you Mike for taking so many race photo's for us over the years!
